1. TV BROADCASTING SERVICES
Television broadcasting from Ostankino TV tower has been started since putting it into operation in November 1967. Initially, there were four TV transmitters of domestic manufacture:
- TV-50/5-1 - 1 TV Channel "URAGAN", "1st TV Programme"
- TV-50/5-11 - 3 TV Channel "URAGAN", "Moscow Programme"
- TV-50/5-111 - 8 TV Channel "LEN", "Educational Programme"
- TV-50/5-111 - 11 TV Channel "LEN", "2nd TV Programme"
In the abovementioned transmitters electronic tubes were used. Depending on frequency range and relief, radius of action varied from 100km to 120km.
In 1982, increasing in transmitted programmes influenced on TV transmitters quantity. Thus, at the same time microwave 20 kW transmitter for Channel 33 and 100W transmitter for Channel 24 were installed. The latest one was used to broadcast "CNN" programme "Worldwide news" till 1999.
In 1993 the following TV transmitters were installed and put into operation:
- 20 kW TESLA (Czech Republic) for Ch. 31 - TV programme "M1".
- 1,0 kW HARRIS (USA) for Ch.6 instead of low powered 100 W transmitter. At present, on Channel 6 POLARIS (Russian Federation) transmitter broadcasts programme "Sport".
- 1,0 kW VELEK (Czech Republic-France) for Ch.49 - TV programme "REN-TV". In 1999 it was exchanged for 20kW THOMCAST (France) transmitter.
In 1994 transmitter 1,0 kW VELEK (Czech Republic-France) for Ch.51 for TV programme MUZ-TV was installed. Since 2001 for MUZ-TV transmitter 20 kW THALES (France) has been used.
In 1996 for TV programme STS - Ch.27 transmitter 1,0 kW was installed. In 2003 it was exchanged for transmitter 5 kW HARRIS (USA).
In 1997 for TV programme MTV - Ch. 38 transmitter 20 kW ROHDE&SCHWARZ (Germany) was installed. Also, for TV programme TV-3 - Ch.46 transmitter 5 kW ABE (Italy) was installed.
In 1999 the following TV transmitters were put into operation:
- 60 kW THOMCAST (France) for TV programme RUSSIA - Ch.11 instead of out-of-date transmitter LEN (Russia)
- 1,0 kW TESLA (Czech Republic) for TV programme TV DARIAL - Ch.23
- 2,0 kW TEHNOSISTEM (Italy) for TV programme DP - Ch.29. At present, on Ch. 29 TV programme SPORT Channel- 7 TV broadcasts.
In 2002 the following TV transmitters were put into operation:
- 10 kW THALES (France) - Ch.23
- 10 kW TESLA (Czech Republic) - Ch.29
- 1,3 kW ROHDE&SCHWARZ (Germany) with liquid cooling system for digital TV broadcasting in DVB-T standard - Ch.32
In 2003 the following TV transmitters were put into operation:
- 5 kW ROHDE&SCHWARZ (Germany) for TV programme 2x2 - Ch.60
- 40 kW HARRIS (USA) with NICAM 728 for TV programme 1st CHANNEL instead out-of-date transmitter URAGAN (Russia) - Ch.1
- 2,0 kW ONEGA-2 (Russia) for TV programme TNT - Ch.35
According to frequency plan of Moscow for TV broadcasting enlargement the possibility of using other TV channels is studied
On the basis of TV broadcasting facilities, the network of mass information service of population systems is developed, which provides the delivery of extra information for common purposes. At present, simultaneously with broadcasting of TV programmes following TV Channels are used to broadcast extra information:
by video channel of TV transmitters:
Channel 1 and Channel 3: TV INFORM (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Extraordinary Situations, ITAR-TASS, RIA)
by audio channel of transmitters:
Channel 3: LOGOS (sound broadcasting for the blind).
Channel 11: MICROEX (radiotext).
At present, on Ostankino TV tower extra information broadcasting systems are installing to deliver information in video channel and audio channel by means of other TV transmitters.
In the context of development on-air and cable TV broadcasting in Moscow, on Ostankino TV tower the system of TV programmes signal transmission and monitoring for cable TV network (COMCOR) was installed and put into operation.

2. BROADCASTING SERVICES
Regular radio broadcasting on the UHF band has been started from Ostankino TV tower at 7 of November 1967.
At that moment the broadcasting of three radio programs: 1st All-Union program, 3d All-Union program and one stereophonic program with polar modulation has been provided with 15 kW radio station "MED".
Though the technical equipment of the TV tower were ready for continuous broadcasting of the stereo programs, nevertheless stereo broadcasting was periodical because of the lack of essential programs. At the same time the second radio station "MED" for three programs were assembled and adjusted. With the new station the quantity of the transmitted programs were increased to six.
Putting into operation of the transmitter for one of the first commercial radio stations - "M-Radio" in 1987 year became the new stage in the development of broadcasting facilities of Ostankino TV tower. This station operated on frequency 71,3 MHz. (From the February 2000 the "Russian radio" has operated on this frequency).
In autumn 1995 put into operation one more commercial transmitter of "Echo of Moscow" on frequency 73,82 MHz. The power of this transmitter is 10 kW, and range is 100 km.
The new stage in the development of broadcasting facilities of Ostankino TV tower was mastering of FM, i.e. frequency range of 100 - 108 MHz.
At the end of 1991 on the Shuhovskaya tower (Shabolovka str., 37) were assembled and put into operation two radio stations: "Radio - 101" on the frequency 101,2 MHz and "Radio maximum" on the frequency 103,7 MHz. At the end of 1993 a new station "Europa plus" was put into operation on the frequency 106,2 MHz. Output power of each transmitters were 10 kW with range about 70 km.
Till the December 2001 radiobroadcasting in Moscow broadcasted from two towers: from Ostankino TV tower on the frequency band of 66-74 MHz, and fron Shuhovskaya tower on the band of 100-108 MHz.
29 of December 2001 the transmitters of "Radio Dinamit" of frequency band 101,2 MHz, "Radio Maximum" - 101,7 MHz and "Europa plus" - 106,2 MHz were transferred from Shabolovka to Ostankino TV tower and enabled on new FM-antennas. That is increased the ranges of these programs to 75-88 km.
At the present time 16 radio programs are transmitted from Ostankino TV tower. All of transmitters are operated in stereophonic mode.
It is carried out the modernization of radio broadcasting antennas.
Taking into consideration the operation life of previous radial antennas and reclamation work, the new antennas for UHF frequency band were assembled.
